Montgomery County Master Gardener Association
Welcome to our new website!
We are the Montgomery County Master Gardener Association (MCMGA), an organization of volunteers that provides service and education to the Clarksville, TN community. We are an arm of the University of Tennessee Extension offices.
All volunteers are certified Master Gardeners, trained by experts in the horticulture field. If you are interested in joining the Association, you may enroll in the Extension Master Gardener training class that is conducted every year in the Fall.
The Association is open to people of all ages, regardless of socio-economic level, race, color, sex, or disability.
We choose the sunflower as our enduring graphic symbol, because sunflowers and Master Gardeners share so many notable features!
Young sunflowers turn their heads, tracking the sun’s passage from east to west. Gardeners, too, are exquisitely tuned to the sun’s rise and fall, its comings and goings.
Sunflowers are highly adaptable, displaying their colorful petals despite unyielding soils, wind-blown fields, and harsh conditions. Gardeners, too, persevere, despite drought, deluge, and doubt.
Sunflowers beckon pollinators, offering up a feast through their seeds and stems. Gardeners, too, summon the planet’s winged creatures, offering nectar-filled blossoms with the promise of sustenance.
Sunflowers stand tall, not for pride, but for purpose. Similarly, gardeners achieve expansiveness not through achievement but through service, with a heartfelt dedication to growth, learning, and community.
Gardeners and sunflowers share a trust in sunlight, soil, and patience in their pursuit of blooms. Both trust that growth, though silent, is always happening beneath the surface.
Like sunflowers, gardeners too are guided by an inner compass that unfailingly points toward hope.
